Upper Poppleton, England -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/24/2017 -- Newsround has recently published an article revealing the findings of an experiment that has been completed with a group of UK school children, looking into how we can get children to like vegetables more. The study was designed to see if training ourselves to like foods that we didn't previously is possible – and it seems like it is.
The study entailed a group of young scientists between the ages of 9 and 11 eating a piece of green kale every day for fifteen days. By the end of the fifteen day experiment a lot of the children did find that they enjoyed the vegetable slightly more. This means that it is possible for us to train ourselves to like vegetables and food more.
However, during the study the scientists discovered something else... for some people it is harder for people to get used to foods, this is because they have more fungiform papillae on their tongues – these are what contains our taste buds. People with more fungiform papillae therefore taste things more intensely and these people can find it more difficult to get used to flavors.
A spokesperson from a leading hydroponics equipment provider, Hydroponica, was keen to comment saying, "The findings of this study are great, and we would like to thank all of the young scientists involved. In addition to this trick however, there are other methods available for those looking to get their children to eat more veggies, including that of hydroponic growing. Hydroponic growing can urge children to eat their vegetables, as they are able to assist with growing them which can be incredibly rewarding and exciting. Who doesn't want to indulge in food that they have grown themselves?"
